Yoga and Mindfulness Group
For Ages 9-13
This group is designed to help individuals increase mindfulness and cultivate greater mind-body connection. Tailored for children and tweens between the ages of 9-13 who may be going through significant changes in their minds and bodies.
Participants will learn various yoga postures and breathing techniques that can help ease anxiety and stress while increasing confidence and self-esteem.
Using the proven research that yoga reduces autonomic arousal that can lead to several psychiatric conditions, cardiovascular disorders, and respiratory disorders (Khalsa, 2004), this group equips children and tweens with the skills to calm their nervous system and respond well to stress and anxiety.
What to expect: Participants will receive a group syllabus during the first session and additional handouts as needed.
- First 5-10 minutes to check in
- 10 minute guided meditation
- 30 minute movement and connection
- Last 5-10 minutes to share and discuss
Why Yoga & Why Mindfulness?
- Yoga incorporates stillness, breath control, physical exercise, and elongated postures to develop a state of harmony from within
- Research shows yoga to be effective and counteractive to eliminating stress, reducing anxiety
- Mindfulness involves intention, being present, and challenges the individual to have a state of awareness in their senses without judgment
- Practicing mindfulness can help increase an individuals ability to self-regulate and develop intrinsic tools to calm anxious thoughts or overwhelming emotions
